Hospital Bag Checklist

Updated: Jul 19, 2023

Preparing for the arrival of your little one can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially when it comes to packing your hospital bag. To make things a little easier, I've put together a list of essential items to pack for labour and childbirth.

For Mum:

  • Comfortable clothes to wear during labour, such as loose-fitting pajamas or a nightgown

  • Slippers or socks with a non-slip sole for walking around the hospital

  • Nursing bras or tank tops for breastfeeding

  • Underwear that is comfortable and disposable, as well as heavy-duty sanitary pads

  • Toiletries, including a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, and any other personal care items you may need

  • A comfortable outfit to wear home from the hospital

For Partner:

  • Comfortable clothes to wear during the hospital stay

  • Snacks and drinks to keep their energy up during labour

  • A camera or phone to capture special moments

  • A change of clothes and toiletries

For Baby:

  • A going-home outfit and blanket

  • Diapers and wipes

  • A car seat to safely transport your baby home

Additional items to consider:

Items to enhance your birth experience and boost oxytocin. Think of things that heighten your senses such as familiar smells, relaxing sounds and photos of love ones.

Birth plan and any necessary paperwork or identification

Pillows and blankets to make the hospital room feel more like home

Entertainment such as books or magazines, or a tablet to watch shows or movies during downtime

Snacks and drinks for after delivery

Remember, every birth experience is unique, andthere may be additional items that you or your healthcare provider recommend. Be sure to check with your hospital or birthing center for any specific guidelines or recommendations. Packing your hospital bag can help you feel prepared and ready for your little one's arrival. Best of luck on your journey to motherhood!
